What is the Eligibility Policy?

(From Page 21 of the 2024-2025 Family Handbook)

Our staff holds differentiated high expectations for all of our students.  With that in mind, we have established an Eligibility Policy to maintain a high level of work ethic and quality for our students.

For all students, an attendance rate of 90% or better must be maintained to participate in special activities, including, but not limited to, Interest Learning, after-school Ignite activities, Rec Nights, Field Day, special events, Real Life Connections trips, and outings. In addition, students may not have more than one major or two minor disciplinary offenses in order to be eligible for the special activities listed above. If a student has any disciplinary offense within the two weeks prior to a special activity, including middle school RLC trips, the executive and administrative directors reserve the right to withhold participation in any upcoming activity. Finally, students who have a pattern of late, missing, or incomplete work may not be allowed to participate in special activities at the discrection of the executive director and administrative directors.

For our middle schoolers, if a student holds a cumulative grade percentage of 69% or less in any academic subject, the executive and administrative directors reserve the right to withhold student participation in any school-sponsored activity.  This includes but is not limited to, Interest Learning, after-school Ignite activities, Rec Nights, Field Day, special events, clubs, Real Life Connections trips, and outings.  In addition, each family must have satisfied all of their financial obligations to NCCS in order for their student(s) to participate in any special activity.

The administration also reserves the right to withhold student participation for students in all program years based on other circumstances, i.e., financial obligations, a pattern of late or missing assignments, incomplete homework, etc. As noted, all of the above is at the final discretion of the administration.

Do I need to send spending money?

The short answer is No. That being said we understand that getting to manage their own money is a part of the fun of going on these trips. While all of your child's needs will be met, should they want snacks between meals or souvieners you are welcome to send money.  We will help your child with their money but we ask that as a family you discuss how you would like your child to best spend it should you want to regulate.

Cell Phone and other electronic?

Each trip has its own electronics policy. Although our wish is that students stay engaged in all that these trips offer we understand that being away from home can be a new and scary experience. As a staff, we will always be available should an emergency arise. In addition, the school cannot be held responsible for lost/stolen/broken items.  Also, the school electronics policy will be in effect and if at any time a student is caught on social media their electronic will be confiscated for the remainder of the trip.  In addition, all phones will be used only in the common areas of the suites and all phones will be charged in a common area as assigned by the room chaperone.

What if my child is not attending?

Should your child choose not to participate in any of the trips please reference the NOT ATTENDING page for an alternative activity.
